kNot is a collection of modular synthesis pieces done in 2015. The earliest one dates from the end of April, and the last one was completed at the very end of the year. Each one was recorded as the performance of a "patch", which is jargon for the totality of connections among modules. Each patch started from a blank slate; there were no cables connected to any of the modules. Building a patch is partly a pursuit of intended consequences and partly a discovery of unintended ones. My sense of what sounds "good" is married to my inclination to make pieces of music. A patch develops as an accretion of connections toward that end. By design, my system has a lot of latent potential for multiple "voices" based on different oscillators, which caters to a traditional approach to composing. Modular synthesis is extremely open-ended, which I try to exploit to create distinctive music. I hope you enjoy the seven tracks comprising kNot.
